Journalism trainers celebrated their move to new headquarters by starting their own podcast.
Anna Jones and Polly Rippon, who teach in the School of Journalism at the University of Sheffield, have teamed up with award-winning BBC podcaster Jenny Eales on ‘Journo Wave’.
This podcast is aimed at new students, returning students, university staff, and anyone interested in the world of journalism.
The launch of the department comes after the department relocated from Mappin Street in Sheffield city center to a new home at The Wave in Broomhill.
Polly (pictured), former night editor of the Sheffield Star, told HTFP:
“We work in a very innovative department and we wanted to use the podcast as a tool to promote our courses and give people an idea of what it’s like to study at the School of Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield. I was thinking.
“We want our students, parents, staff and the wider community to know what’s going on in our brand new headquarters, the research our staff are doing and how we help future journalists. I really hope you enjoy listening and learning more about how we teach.”
In the first 30-minute episode, the trio provided an introduction to the Journalism Studies Department, and in the second episode, Jenny spoke to The News Movement’s Mary Mandefield and Persefonica’s Xanthe Palmer, who visited The Wave. Talk to your students.
Polly and Anna also discussed the legal issues surrounding the Russell Brand story. In upcoming episodes, the trio will meet with faculty teachers, researchers and support staff to help students understand how they can fit into and develop into the journalism industry.
