Former CNN political analyst and anchor john abron announced Wednesday that he is running for New York’s 1st Congressional District after leaving the network earlier this month.
In a video announcing his candidacy posted on social media, Avron sounded the alarm about the state of American democracy.
“Right now, our democracy is at risk,” he said. “This election is not a drill. It’s up to all of us to step up and come off the sidelines.”
“Democrats cannot afford to lose this fight,” Avlon said, adding that they need to come together and fight back. playing cards and supporters at the Capitol.
“Too much is at stake for this country and the community that I love,” Avron said. “We need to build the broadest possible coalition to defeat Donald Trump, protect our democracy, and take back the House from his MAGA minions who no longer seem interested in solving problems. The city of Avron is seeking to unseat freshman Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Nick Larota, who won the 2022 election by an 11 percentage point margin. Larota has already endorsed Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
LaRota’s seat was previously held by former Rep. Lee Zeldin, a Republican.

Avron joins a crowded Democratic primary field in the battleground district, where six candidates have already entered the race, including New York City Administrative Law, a former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo; They include Judge Craig Herskowitz and former state Sen. Jim Gaughan. , chemist Nancy Goroff, who lost to Zeldin in 2020.
