State Wrestling Day 1: The Sheridan boys wrestling team won both the first round and the first round of wrestling backs by a combined score of 20-17 yesterday on the first day of the 2024 Wyoming State High School Wrestling Tournament in Casper.
This puts the Bronx in third place, trailing Thunder Basin by 11 points in the 4A standings.
Meanwhile, Tanriver’s boys team sits in 10th place in the 2A standings.
On the women’s side, Sheridan placed 8th and was unable to compete on the first day.
Because not all spots are filled, some female wrestlers received first-round byes in their spots, which do not earn them team points.
The quarterfinals begin today at 10:30 a.m., with the second round of wrestling back to back at 1:30 p.m.
The semi-finals will begin at 4:00 p.m., and the third round of wrestling will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Tomorrow’s game begins at 10:30 a.m. and the championship game begins at 2:15 p.m.

Sheridan High School Basketball: Tonight is Senior Night and the final home game of the regular season for the Sheridan boys and girls teams.
The first game vs. Natrona will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
As far as the women’s game goes, nothing is at stake for the Lady Broncs except momentum.
Sheridan has already locked in as the No. 2 seed in the Northeast heading into next weekend’s regional tournament.
In tonight’s men’s game, the No. 1 seed is at stake for both the Mustangs and Broncs.

Sheridan will host the 4A East boys and girls regional tournament starting next Thursday.
Tongue River, Big Horn, Arvada-Clearmont High School Basketball: The 2A and 1A district tournaments started yesterday.
In the first round of the 2A East Regional Tournament being held in Burns, the Tongue River boys defeated Burns and the Big Horn boys defeated Pine Bluffs.
TR and BH will face off in the semifinals tonight at 7 p.m.
The winner will earn the right to participate in the prefectural tournament.
The loser will have another chance to qualify tomorrow.
On the girls side, Tongue River won against Rusk, but Big Horn lost to Burns.
The Lady Rams will face Rask today in a repechage game at 9 a.m., and the Lady Eagles will play in the semifinals at 4 p.m.
The Arvada-Clearmont girls lost in the first round to Rock River yesterday in the 1A East Regional Tournament in Laramie.
The Lady Panthers will play Guernsey vs. Sunrise in a repechage game at noon today.

Nordic Ski State Championships: The state tournament will be held today and tomorrow atop Casper Mountain.
Races start at 10am on both days.
Sheridan County High School Indoor Track and Field: At yesterday’s competition held in Gillette, the Sheridan boys placed first and the girls placed fourth out of 11 teams.
The state tournament will be held next Friday and Saturday in Gillette.
University of Wyoming Basketball: The University of Wyoming will host a women’s and men’s doubleheader in Laramie.
First up is the Wyoming Cowgirls vs. New Mexico game at 2 p.m.

denver nuggets basketball: The Denver Nuggets returned from last night’s All-Star break with a 130-110 home win against Washington.
The team will be back in action tonight against Portland and Sunday against Golden State.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche lost 2-1 in overtime last night against Detroit.
The Avs’ next game is tomorrow at home against Toronto.
Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks play in Butte tonight and tomorrow.
The Hawks need to win both these games and next weekend’s home game to get some extra help in order to advance to the playoffs.
Coach JJ Santagata said this has been a strange season with many upsets, but that is normal for the league his team plays in.
Sheridan is now six points back into the final playoff spot with four games left in the regular season, including tonight and tomorrow.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies will play their first spring training game today at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
Tomorrow, the Rockies will play split-squad games at Oakland and Arizona.
Colorado plays Milwaukee on Sunday.
