The regional daily has commemorated International Women’s Day with a special issue celebrating female inspiration.
The Northern Echo marked the occasion by “celebrating the women of the North East who have done amazing work for our region”.
The Darlington-based Echo has featured profiles of some of the region’s most inspiring women in its pages.
Their photos were also featured on the cover.
Editor Gavin Foster told HTFP yesterday: “Today, we honor the incredible achievements of women in our region who have led the way and inspired the next generation of politicians, business leaders, and stars of stage, film, and sport. I thought.
“But it is also an acknowledgment and statement that there is still much work to do before we reach a fair and equal footing.”
Hannah Chapman, the first female editor of the Northern Echo and now editor of Newsquest’s sister weekly Darlington & Stockton Times, said: ‘On International Women’s Day, we would like to celebrate the recognition of so many outstanding women. “It’s always inspiring to see achievements highlighted, especially those of women.” They work hard to smooth the path to success for others who follow in their footsteps.
“As someone who is involved in playing and coaching sports at the grassroots level, it’s great to see the huge strides that have been made in the perception of women’s sports over the past year, due in no small part to the success of the Lionesses.” [England women’s football team].
“But as well as celebrating all these amazing individuals and teams, International Women’s Day is also an opportunity to remember the many challenges women still face in this country, from the rising cost of childcare to everyday misogyny. , it’s also an opportunity to remember that misogyny is happening all over the world, and in many countries such as Afghanistan, it’s being virtually wiped out from society.
“For me, at this point in time as we approach International Women’s Day 2023, it is important to focus on both the positive and negative experiences of women.”
