A journalism graduate who immigrated to the United States has won a prestigious Emmy Award for her reporting.
Jordan Hogan, pictured, accepted an award at the awards, which are billed as the “Oscars of American television.”
Jordan graduated from the University of Brighton in 2015 after working at the Eastbourne Herald, BBC Sussex and Juice FM while studying.
The following year, he moved to Utah and became a reporter and producer for Fox 13 TV News based in Salt Lake City.
Jordan won an Emmy Award in the Environmental/Science/Technology News category for a report titled “Your Phone Is Always Listening,” which aired on Fox 13 TV in February.
The report investigated whether smartphones are eavesdropping on users and collecting large amounts of information that is shared with phone companies and their customers who pay for their personal data.
Jordan said:
“Whether it was to hone my skills, network with industry professionals, or just to have an instructor who believed in me and fostered my passion for news and personal career growth. We are grateful to them for such a great job.”
Dr Simon McEnnis, Media Leader and Principal Lecturer in the School of Arts and Media at the University of Brighton, added: We were recognized for producing such outstanding work.
“Jordan’s success shows journalism students what is possible, and hopefully they can use it as inspiration and motivation to succeed both academically and in their future careers. ”
