A new paid local weekly newspaper has been launched by an independent publisher.
Community Matters Media has launched South London Weekly, covering the south of the capital.
SLW will be released as a 32-page print title with a list price of 50p on the cover.
Kevin Quinn, editor of Southwark News, a weekly magazine owned by Community Matters, has added this new title to his portfolio.
Other contributors include deputy news editor Katherine Johnston, sports editor John Kelly, and reporters Harvey Russell and Isabel Ramirez.
In south London, it will compete with the likes of the independent South London Press and Newsquest’s South London Guardian series.
Community Matters is also responsible for the weekly magazine ‘Greenwich & Lewisham Weekender’, lifestyle magazines ‘The South Londoner’ and ‘Bermondsey Biscuit & Rotherhithe Docker’.
The SLW introductory article, available for free in electronic form online, states: “We believe in our community and in balanced, independent and responsible journalism.
“As a south London company, we are also committed to supporting local businesses.
“Our dedicated team of staff work tirelessly to cover what is happening as best we can, ensuring that independent, community-led newspapers survive in a market dominated by national and multinational media groups. , we strive to ensure excellence.”
