An award-winning investigative journalist has become the highest-profile departure following a drive by local publishers to cut jobs.
Harriet Clugston has announced her retirement from National World. She most recently served as data and research editor at national news title National World.
Her resignation comes just days after National World completed another round of cuts affecting more than 50 journalists and announced the launch of a new voluntary redundancy scheme for journalists.
During her time with the publisher and its predecessor companies, Harriet won the Investigative Journalism Award at the Royal Statistical Society’s Statistical Excellence in Journalism Awards and was also acting Group-wide Acting Data and Research Editor for JPIMedia.
National World’s recent reorganization saw political editor Tom Hourigan leave his post just weeks after taking over due to a “change in editorial direction”, and website launch editor Nick Mitchell , has been moved to a new role with responsibility for the entire group. audience.
