A local publisher plans to close two of its sister newspapers, including one that has been published for 150 years, and operate exclusively online.
Newsquest Scotland has announced that the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven reporters and The Irvine Times will publish their final print editions next week.
The publishers say both websites will continue to be staffed and no jobs are at risk.
Both papers have a circulation of less than 650 copies, and the final print edition will be published next Tuesday.
The Times was founded in 1873, and the Reporter began in 1964.
The move comes after the ABC’s 2022 statistics showed the average circulation of the Times was 614, while the Reporter had an average circulation of 559.
A spokesperson for Newsquest Scotland said: “The present and future is digital, with far more readers now engaging with the Irvine Times and Dumbarton Reporter on digital platforms than in print. April only That’s over 200,000 people.”
