Jay Sparrow’s NWO business uses journalism news as a platform – RESPECT.

Jay Sparrow is a young African-American man with a strong interest in journalism. He is currently studying journalism at university level. However, Sparrow has been making a living for the past eight years working as his live event coordinator. Sparrow’s mission was to incorporate mainstream music artists and local independent artists to organize his performances in concert. He helps local artists in New York City make money by paying them based on the number of guests they are able to attend their shows. Due to the impact of Covid-19, Sparrow has not been able to organize any shows recently and is now concerned that they may not be able to do any shows for the remainder of 2020.

The pandemic and social unrest that the United States has endured over the past few months inspired Sparrow to create the NWO platform. Similar to his hip-hop group NWA, NWO is an acronym that establishes how certain black people identify themselves in America and how they intend to utilize that identity. The group members of NWA (N****s Wit Attitude) chose this group name to convey the meaning of not being swayed by society’s opinions. The tough attitude these rappers had was meant to be combative against the oppressive American society they were trapped in. Sparrow uses the acronym NWO to establish his identity and what he intends to do with it. NWO (N***a With Opinions) aims to provide an alternative news source for people who don’t really like CNN. Basically, it provides live news that celebrates urban culture and disseminates information that mainstream media usually ignores. NWO not only provides news that other platforms do not offer, but also recognizes important information that is also covered by major platforms. People can get the same facts about a CNN news story, but some people prefer to get their news from the NWO simply because they value the perspective Sparrow can provide more than a CNN reporter. Sparrow likens the discussions that take place on his platform to conversations that take place in a barbershop. Barber talk usually covers endless topics and can be off-topic, but it can also be very informative.

Episodes of NWO are available to watch live or on-demand via Facebook. This is the platform we need to educate those who shy away from mainstream news sources by providing important information in a relatable way. NWO’s segments include the “Real N***a Museum,” which celebrates Black people who deserve to be remembered as powerful assets of Black culture, and the “Karen Segment,” which identifies white people who have committed abuse. It took away the privileges of black people at the expense of their safety. Sparrow likes the interactive aspect of the platform because he allows NWO viewers to comment and ask questions while episodes air. He claims to be unapologetic in everything he says and does as a journalist determined to found the NWO. Sparrow discredits “cancel culture.” He advises people to never speak out unless they really believe it. The NWO is a free space to express your true feelings, and Sparrow intends to do just that.
