Slay the Spire 2 has officially been confirmed with an early access Steam period beginning in 2025 at an unspecified date. A console release for Slay the Spire‘s sequel has not yet been announced, although it seems quite likely.
Slay the Spire‘s full release came in 2019 when the game quickly turned into a viral hit. Now regarded as one of the best strategy card games in recent times, Slay the Spire‘s tactical yet intuitive gameplay led many gamers to become hooked on its roguelike, deck-building format. The indie game still boasts decent Steam player numbers more than five years after its release with a peak of 20,000 concurrent users in March. Slay the Spire‘s widespread acclaim made a sequel seem like an obvious move for developer Mega Crit, but this had remained unconfirmed until now.
Slay The Spire: The Best Cards For The Ironclad, Ranked
The Ironclad is one of three class types the player can choose at the beginning of Slay The Spire. Here are the best cards.
During the Triple-I Initiative showcase, a brief, animated trailer for Slay the Spire 2 was shown, teasing the game’s format of fighting upwards through the spire once again. Mega Crit confirmed that the sequel features new playable characters, enemies, cards, events, relics, and more. Slay the Spire 2‘s Steam page teases that the game includes new ways to play that haven’t been announced yet, possibly suggesting that it features a non-roguelike format as well, but this is purely speculation. Mega Crit revealed one of Slay the Spire 2‘s new characters, the Necrobinder. This character starts with a very low 35 HP and presumably has something to do with bringing the dead back to life.
Slay the Spire 2’s Reveal Trailer
Slay the Spire 2‘s gameplay seems to be quite similar to the first game’s ingenious design, as shown in the Steam page’s screenshots. However, this time around, Slay the Spire‘s cards will be replaced with brand-new ones along with new random encounters like the Symbiote. As for Slay the Spire 2‘s starting characters, the trailer seems to suggest that The Ironclad, The Silent, and The Necrobinder will be available at launch.
Mega Crit confirmed that more info is coming later this year, but did not specify exactly when. While fans will have to wait for additional news, they can still enjoy the original Slay the Spire and its fan-made mods, some of which add entirely new cards, bosses, and events to the game.
Roguelike deck-building fans can also check out Balatro if they haven’t already. The viral card game draws inspiration from Poker to create a unique approach that is quite addictive (and doesn’t involve gambling).
Slay the Spire
Slay the Spire was developed by MegaCrit and is a roguelike deck-building game with similarities to the pioneer of deck-building games, Dominion.
Slay the Spire was nominated for PC Game of the Year at the 2019 Golden Joystick Awards, though it lost out to World of Warcraft Classic.
