One of the greatest indie titles to launch in 2023 – perhaps ever – has made a splash on PlayStation as its demo has become available for all who want to tangle with an Eldritch entity lurking in the inky abyss.
Board your vessel and face what lurks below in Dredge
In our review of Dredge, we hailed the game as “refreshingly original” while we tried “to find love in a hopeless plaice”. Fantastic puns from our very own Ewan Moore aside, this Team17 game is undoubtedly one of the creepiest, innovative games we’ve had the pleasure of playing.
To celebrate this glorious “cosy horror” turning one, the devs have bestowed PlayStation players with the greatest gift that can be given: terror. Hop in your little boat and take to the waters, but be careful how far you roam underprepared…
This “really wonderful and stylish game” is a 10/10 reviewed Steam experience. It’ll take you on a mysterious journey that’ll test your resolve, and love of the water, as you grow ever closer to the truth. And once the main game is done, you have the joy of exploring new regions in the DLC.
Dredge has proven such a popular game that it collaborated with Dave the Diver to give us one of the greatest unions the games industry has ever seen. The free demo, which consists of the first chapter of the title, is quite the boon for Sony’s console, especially with April’s free games dividing players over the “waste of a slot”.
Even if horror doesn’t tickle your fancy normally, Dredge offers enough deviation from certain horror conventions that it doesn’t feel like a constant terror fuelled ride. You will be unnerved often, but you’ll also be able to customise your boat, catch fish, and otherwise embrace life on the waves.
