News brands from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are leading the way in this year’s regional newspaper award race, with the shortlist announced today.
Reach plc’s all-Wales news website WalesOnline has received the most nominations at the awards, which aim to celebrate the best in local journalism in 2023.
The 14 nominations are compared to 12 for the Belfast Telegraph and 11 for the Glasgow-based daily Herald and its sister publications, the Herald on Sunday and the Glasgow Times.
The best-performing English titles on the shortlist were The Northern Echo and Manchester Evening News, with seven each, narrowly ahead of the Liverpool Echo with six.
The shortlist was chosen by a large panel of experts from across the industry, chaired by former Reach plc editorial leader Alison Goh and former Northern Echo editor Peter Sands. Ta.
The first round of judging took place online before Christmas, with the final selection taking place yesterday morning.
Prizes will be given away on Tuesday 16th April 2024 during lunch at Quaglino’s, Bury Street, London.
