It obviously makes no sense for Google News to disappear. We use it all the time, but it’s definitely a bug or a technical issue on Sarah’s part. Other than that, she asked Google, and she says they are indeed “testing different ways to display filters in search,” with some disappearing sporadically.It’s a news filter especially Is it gone?Unknown — someone said shopping filter But it’s hard to tell, for example, in the week that Vice, now owned by a privately held company, announced it was laying off hundreds of people and saying it would no longer publish content on Vice.com. People can be forgiven for being a little wary, because “it’s no longer cost-effective to deliver digital content the way we used to” (on a website?).
Emily Bell, director of Columbia University’s Tow Center for Journalism, has a theory, but I asked her to elaborate a bit.
Google Discover is a stealth replacement for Google News, and I think the traffic patterns perfectly reflect that (10x via Discover)…which is a shame because Discover is an absolutely terrible product (imo) https ://t.co/HDCo2sWdHK

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the News tab is being toyed with when Discover is dominating in traffic. It’s not a replacement at all, but what worries me is that inside Google everything is considered “news traffic”.
