Social workers presented a national award to a local democracy reporter who covered their work.
Richard Yule has won the Mainstream Print News category at the British Association of Social Workers Social Work Journalism Awards 2023.
Richard (pictured) won the award for his article highlighting the millions of pounds spent on social workers in Wales.
He covers Swansea and Carmarthenshire for Wales Online, funded by the BBC.
Richard said: “I was very surprised to find out that I had been nominated, but I was happy to win in my category.
“I hope this award will encourage further reporting on this subject and help people understand the scope of social workers’ work.”
The finalists attended a special awards reception at the BASW Annual Conference in Birmingham on 13 June.
Dr Ruth Allen, CEO of BASW, said:
“Being part of the judging panel shows that there is really great journalism out there, and there are some great journalists covering our field.
“We know social work is not an easy field to report on, so they deserve recognition. We hope other journalists will follow their lead. We look forward to recognizing even more outstanding journalists in the future.
“Entries are now being accepted for the 2024 BASW Social Work Journalism Awards.”
