Chucky and Roblox is not a combination that I would necessarily come up with, but it’s real, and it launches today.
During today’s Xbox Partner Preview, Griefville: Survive the Nightmare! was unveiled, “a chilling interactive experience inspired by the beloved horror classic films of the ’80s and ’90s,” per the press release from developer RocketRide Games. The focus in the trailer, though, is Chucky, showing him wreaking all kinds of havoc.
Chucky will only be available for a limited time, however, as a “nightmare experience.” You’ll be able to either play as the iconic killer doll, hunting victims yourself, or run from him as one of those victims. Other horror films will be brought in on a “rotating basis,” RocketRide says.
“The Chucky character is synonymous with horror, and we are so excited to participate in this killer new experience on the Roblox platform,” adds Bill Kispert, SVP & GM, Games & Digital Platforms at Universal Products & Experiences, in the announcement. Bringing the iconic killer doll frighteningly to life in the game, adds an unexpected twist to Griefville: Survive the Nightmare! and further solidifies the authenticity of the classic horror vibe in the experience.”
The game takes place, obviously, in Griefville, where players will explore a gradually expanding map inspired by horror classics, getting sucked into quests with spooky characters along the way. It features a day-and-night cycle that’ll have players spending the daylight prepping for the “nightmare portals” that open at night.
