In a bizarre turn of events, a 31-year-old businessman was arrested by the police on charges of stalking and kidnapping a television music channel anchor for the purpose of marrying him.
Police said the woman, identified as Bhogireddy Trishna, who runs a digital marketing business, became obsessed with TV anchor Pranav Shistra after she happened to come across his photo on a matrimonial website two years ago.
Trishna searched the profile and found the TV anchor’s phone number. When she contacted Pranav through an instant messaging app, the anchor told her that someone unknown had used his photo and created a fake account on her matrimonial site. She said he had lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station in this regard.
The woman continued to send messages to the anchor. However, her advances are rejected as Pranav has blocked her number.
Dissatisfied with this setback, Trishna decided to marry Anker and is said to have hatched a plan to kidnap him thinking she could resolve the situation. So she hired four people to kidnap Anker and also installed a tracking device on the victim’s car to monitor his movements.
On February 11, hired men allegedly abducted a TV anchor and physically assaulted her in her office. Police said the TV anchor feared for his life and agreed to respond to the woman’s call, but he was later released.
After the ordeal, he filed a complaint at Uppal police station, resulting in a case being registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including kidnapping, wrongful restraint and wrongful confinement.
During the investigation, police arrested the female suspect along with four men she hired to carry out the kidnapping. Further investigation is ongoing.
