A reporter from a local daily newspaper has announced that he will be leaving the city’s website to take up a new role on the local BBC news program.
Josh Sandiford announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he is joining BBC Midlands Today after two years with the Birmingham Mail and its sister website Birmingham Live.
Shortlisted for Young Journalist of the Year at the 2022 Regional Press Awards, Josh will be shortlisted for Young Journalist of the Year (Regional) at the Media Freedom Awards in September. It was also awarded in the category.
In a post on Tuesday, he thanked the Birmingham Live team and expressed his excitement for the new challenge ahead.

Birmingham Live reporter Josh Sandiford has secured his dream move to BBC Midlands Today.
“Today is my last day at Birmingham Live,” he wrote. “I am very grateful for the opportunities and training I have been given over the past two and a half years. It has been an honor to learn from such great colleagues. I am sad to move on.”
“But I’m delighted to be joining @bbcmtd as a journalist covering news across the West Midlands. I can’t wait to meet the team and get to work!”
Josh was originally one of two reporters employed by the Mail to cover Solihull, bringing further news coverage to a previously under-represented borough.
In his entry for the Regional Newspaper Award, he cited his proudest accomplishment as his work on the three-month investigation into Logan Podmore, a five-month-old baby who died in a “chaotic” home that contained cocaine. I mentioned what I have been working on.
