KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – East Tennessee high school baseball season is less than two weeks away.
More than 30 area programs headed to Dick’s House of Sports in Knoxville on Wednesday to participate in the East Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association’s first high school baseball media day.
The veteran coach from Heritage High School, Morristown West High School and Loudoun High School shared his thoughts on this historic event.
“I think it’s really good for the kids,” Morristown West head coach Justin Pickett said. “There are a lot of really good teams here.”
Loudoun will have one of the best squads in the area through 2024, led by Tennessee native Jackson Walker. Loudoun head coach Jason Lambert is in his eighth year at the helm of the program and appreciates the exposure media day brings.
“This is great. We are grateful to ETBCA,” Lambert said. “We’re lucky to have something like this and we’re excited to see how it grows in the future.”
Despite going 9-24 last season, Heritage finished the season winning five of its last seven games. The Mountaineers welcome back veteran head coach Robbie Bennett.
“This is great for the kids and great for the baseball community,” said Bennett, who also serves as the school’s athletic director.
TSSAA opening day is set for March 4th.
