Nebraska’s rich history, diverse culture and close-knit community are celebrated in Nebraska Public Media’s latest local documentary highlighting Nebraska’s vibrant murals.
“The Magic of Murals” will premiere on Nebraska Public Media, YouTube and Facebook Live on February 25 at 7 p.m.
A new wave of artists is beautifying towns and cities with the hope of adding a splash of color and creativity, attracting tourists, stimulating local economies, and making art more accessible. This program will focus on murals in Omaha, Lincoln, Alliance, Grand His Island, Ogallala, Beatrice, Brûlée, and more.
In South Omaha, explore the state’s newest and largest mural on the Ardent Mills silo along Highway 75. This is a prominent location where both the process and this public art are accessible to all who pass by.
In the village of Brule in Keith County, viewers witness the transformation of buildings in the local park. One of his four sides features a mural of a park bench surrounded by flowers, creating an immersive “selfie” backdrop for social media.
“The Magic of Murals” explores how large-scale art transforms neighborhoods, gardens, and downtown districts, making it a tourist destination for artists, art lovers, and anyone interested in learning more about moving art from canvas to community. We will also verify whether this is the case.
