Forest firefighters risk life and limb to keep us and our communities safe, yet they are not even recognized as firefighters. Like urban firefighters, forest firefighters are at higher risk of cancer and heart disease than other personnel. But if they do get sick, forest firefighters are expected to jump through hoops to prove a strong causal link between their exposure and diagnosis.

For decades, forest firefighters have fought for recognition, adequate personal protective equipment, and workplace compensation. In recent months, they have been campaigning for a solution to the crisis and have garnered significant public support. in ontario aviation, forest fire and Emergency Services (AFFES).
