Annacone, who played for the Vols from 1982 to 1984, was the first player in program history to be named a three-time All-American and a three-time All-SEC selection. He won several championships in college, including the ITA Indoor singles title (1984) and SEC Tournament singles (1984) and doubles (1982) honors. In 1984, he posted an impressive 54-3 record in singles, the highest winning percentage in UT history and the third-most wins in a season.
In his 14 years on the professional tour as a player, Annacone won three ATP titles and was ranked as high as No. 12 in the world during his career. In her doubles, Annacone finished her career with 14 titles.
Annacone went on to have great success coaching some of the most decorated professional players, including Pete Sampras, Tim Henman, and Roger Federer. He currently coaches Taylor Fritz and serves as an analyst and commentator for Tennis Channel.
“Paul Annacone enjoyed a storied career as a tennis player and has given back to the tennis community in every step he has taken since his playing days,” said Brad Willis, executive director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. “Paul is a great ambassador for this sport and a great teacher of the game to players and spectators alike. We are thrilled that Paul Annacone will be a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024.”
The 2024 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, hosted by the Tennessee Titans, will be held on Saturday, July 20th at the Omni Nashville Downtown.
