Dozens of firefighters rushed to the abandoned building as thick smoke began to rise from the building.
At 3.22pm on Thursday 22nd February, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) received reports of a fire in Tessa Road, Reading.
This building once housed the Reading Evening Post, but is now vacant.
Eight members of Berkshire Fire Brigade and four members of Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the scene along an elevated ladder.
A spokesperson for RBFRS said: “Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire in an abandoned warehouse.
“Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used two main jets and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.”
A temporary road closure was implemented on Litchfield Avenue and several workers were stranded with their vehicles on Tessa Road.
At 6:30 p.m. fire brigade operations began to wind down, with most of the fire brigade leaving the scene by 7:30 p.m.
A small fire brigade remained at the scene to check for hot spots.
An RBFRS spokesperson said: “More than 50 firefighters were on the scene at the peak.
“We would like to thank everyone for their patience as we dealt with this incident.”
Workers remained at the site for approximately four hours and returned to the site late in the evening to conduct a re-inspection.
