Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) recalled his own words just a few months ago when he tried to push for the impeachment of President Joe Biden.
During an appearance on CNN’s “Newsnight” with Abby Phillippe, Paul, D-Fla., responded to her comments that cast doubt on pursuing impeachment as a successful strategy.
“Here’s what you said, Congressman,” Mr. Phillip told Mr. Gaetz, then read back his words.
The moment came during an early October interview in which Gaetz was chatting with host and former White House strategist Steve Bannon at an invite-only fundraiser held on Zoom to promote the Biden investigation. This was when I expressed my reluctance to do so.
“I don’t think we’re working toward a legitimate impeachment of Joe Biden,” he said at the time. “They are trying to do something like an ‘eternal war’ of impeachment. And like many of our eternal wars, it will last forever and end in a bloody draw.”
“To be honest, it seems like you were probably right at first,” Philip told Gates.

And he tried to set the record straight by replying, “You hear me speak on issues that are important to me, but I’m not leading impeachment.” “We talked about things like the budget, single-subject spending bills and term limits.”
Filip then went on to explain the importance his fellow Republicans are placing on Alexander Smirnov’s witness testimony. Mr. Smirnov faces criminal charges for lying to investigators that the Biden family accepted millions of dollars in bribes.
“Given that, according to your colleagues, Jim Jordan, this was the most corroborating evidence they had if they dropped this impeachment?” she asked.
“I don’t agree with Jordan that this is the most corroborated thing,” Gaetz said.
In fact, he believes there is a flow of money not only from Hunter Biden, but also from Biden’s brother James.
“I was trying to get James Biden out of office, and I would be appalled by the way they extorted money from the Chinese government,” he said. “Sure, it’s not Joe Biden, it’s James Biden. But when foreign governments are loading cash into the entire Biden family organization, they’re doing it to extract some skills or services from them. “Hey, Biden, they’re doing this to influence Joe Biden. ”
