The Connecticut native told Hearst Connecticut Media that Friday, March 1, will be his last day at the station. Massaro served as lead anchor for weekend morning news from 2021 to fall 2023, according to his LinkedIn. In November 2023, NBC Connecticut announced changes to its anchor lineup.
Massaro announced the news of his resignation on Twitter on Friday, describing his time at NBC Connecticut as an “incredible journey of reinvention.”

“I challenged myself to use my broadcasting skills in a different but meaningful way, and I succeeded,” he said in a tweet.
NBC Connecticut did not respond to requests for comment for this story.
The Connecticut native spent 20 years as a sportscaster covering NASCAR, the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox before joining NBC Connecticut as a reporter in 2019, according to his NBC Connecticut biography.

He grew up in Manchester and worked as a public address announcer at the Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway in the early 1990s. His first television job was in 1999 when he delivered a feature on the show “Inside NASCAR” on North Carolina’s now-defunct network, Nashville Network (TNN). According to LinkedIn, he then served as an anchor and reporter at ESPN from 2001 to 2015 and at NBC Sports from 2015 to 2017.
Massaro said he has enjoyed his time at NBC Connecticut and is grateful to the station for giving him the opportunity to make a career change into news reporting.
“Local news is something completely different for me and was an incredible challenge at first, and to some extent still is. …I’m grateful because it was an opportunity for me to reinvent myself,” he said.
He has no other jobs lined up and hopes his next career path will include anchoring. Massaro has no plans to move outside of Connecticut. Because Connecticut is his family’s roots and he needs to be close to them.

“I have some kind of ties to Connecticut, so I’m not looking elsewhere,” he said.
Other recent anchors to leave NBC CT include reporter Siobhan McGuirl, who announced in January that she would be leaving the network after four years on the air. McGuirl began her new role as general assignment reporter for NBC10 in Philadelphia at the end of the month.
